Ever have those moments where you’re in the middle of something more important (but definitely boring) and so you start pondering something entirely unrelated?
It struck me that even though Finn, our protagonist of Adventure Time, is red-green colorblind, both love interests have featured a lot of red. I wanted to know how Flame Princess and Princess Bubblegum would appear to Finn…
there is a semi-secret project about to go underway, and I’m sorry but for now, these sketches are all you’ll get.
I got a surprise commission for an ink drawing of a raven, and thus I was practicing ravens this evening.

Le Frou-Frou. 1900. Lucien-Henri Weil aka Weiluc.
Frou-Frou is a sort of swishing, rustling noise, that silk makes as it moves and also the title for an illustrated French humor/fashion magazine published during la belle époque.
A lot of the people on 4chan will act like unapologetic assholes, but at least they’re not self-righteous about it. And, if shown legitimate proof of something, (based on what I’ve seen) they’ll usually accept it, whereas Tumblr prefers to pass around bogus statistics, and cling to emotional pleas, rather than logic.
4chan often behaves like idiots, but they’re aware that they’re behaving like idiots. That’s the whole point. People go there to be anonymous assholes on purpose. Meanwhile, Tumblr is filled with bullies and rejects that think they’re doing the world a goddamn favor by acting like snide, entitled little shit mongers.
4chan will call you a “faggot” regardless of gender identity, which appears to be generally understood to the point where no one even gives a shit anymore.
Tumblr becomes irrationally outraged when you somehow don’t already magically know the “preferred pronouns” of someone you hadn’t even heard of before, even when these “pronouns” are complete crocks of shit like “bunself”, or “princesself”. They then become indignant if you don’t fall to your knees and cater to every last one of their demented little demands, and treat them like the extra special little snowflake that they think they are.
4chan fields obvious inflammatory comments with relative ease, simply by dismissing them as stupid, humoring them for a laugh, or ignoring them from the start. When vitriol does happen, at least it’s mostly reserved to two morons having a witless tennis match of words while everyone else goads them on for the sake of entertainment.
Tumblr takes every goddamn thing as though it’s deadly fucking serious, to the point where people are afraid to voice their opinions on their favorite cookies, lest it somehow “offends” someone.
4chan will bust your nuts until you can prove a claim you’ve made.
Tumblr will gladly make viral the “news” that the sky has suddenly turned neon green, and is raining Nickelodeon Gak - if there’s enough of an emotional, impassioned plea to do so. Especially if they claim their “child” or “younger sibling” saw (and was upset by) this “incident”.
If you like something, and express it, 4chan will tell you it’s terrible just to piss you off.
Do this on Tumblr, and someone will claim you’re “oppressing them” simply because they don’t happen to like it. Then, through emotional manipulation, they try to spread the mindset that you’re somehow “scum” just for enjoying something that they don’t.
While I wouldn’t recommend it as a place to go to “have fun”, 4chan has actually become more welcoming than tumblr at this point.
And that’s just fucking sad.
i legit feel like happy crying look at the notes
this is beautiful
can i frame it

"4chan has actually become more welcoming than tumblr at this point.”
I’ll drink to that.
I finally finished the thing. My art trade with draklorleah, where she does the flawless lines and I do the coloring. An A+ team effort, 10/10 would team again.
Subject is my character Beol with his owl Antian, shifting out of beast form.
I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING HOW DAVIN TURNS OUT LEAH. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY IT WAS SO FUN.
oh MAN OH MAN THIS SURPASSED ALL MY DESIRES, HHHHHH-!!!!
One of the best things with a collab/trade is the surprise; you see, it’s funny, but I imagined this image in mostly like… pastel-y earth tones. So this is a total surprise (AN AMAZING SURPRISE)!
Sammish, I am in love with everything about the coloring here, and especially the harmony and vibrancy of his skin tone, and I’m surprised about how well Antian’s (the owl) extremely light value works here.
And I mean everything about the way Sammish painted this, owl and rockseer both, are incredibly touchable :U
On Monday, June 23rd, I’ll be hosting a drunken commission stream! The stream will start at 3pm PST (which is 6pm EST, which is 11pm GMT).
What is it?
Much like it sounds! I will be taking commissions from now until the 23rd, and drawing them live on that date, and with a drunken exuberance.
Each commission is only $4, as they will be completed very quickly and with a certain amount of… inebriated artistic license. It’s bound to be a roaring good time, both filled with artistic zeal and ludicrous debauchery.
Mostly: because it’s fun! These streams have always been full of laughter, and enjoyable for everyone involved.
One of the best aspects is that the drawings themselves become uninhibited. Things I’ve drawn in past drunk streams include Yevon on a carousel, Wiegraf as a horny sheep, actual smut of the viewers with their favorite characters, questionable moments with sea urchins… The door’s wide open! So you can feel free to request anything you’d like (No, it doesn’t have to be something ludicrous or depraved; but be forewarned that unexpected things might turn up in any request).
And if I can level with you guys… I must also humbly admit that I need the help. While I’m working hard, I still need to ask for aid in the form of commissions to help mitigate some of the costs of my recent move across the country. I didn’t want to whimper pitifully for donations, but rather make this a positive event for all. Any contribution will help me immensely, and will help provide for a really great night for everyone who attends!
How to Commission?
To commission, send me a message telling me that you’d like a commission, what you’d like a commission of, and even if you would prefer it in pencil or ink. I will send you a confirmation message that I’ve received your request, and your payment.
To pay, send to email@example.com via Paypal. The cost is $4 per commission, which buys you a high-resolution digital copy, or! if you’d like me to mail you a physical copy of the piece, it’s $7.
If you would like, you can of course make a donation of any amount to the event, and I will take a shot on your behalf. Do let me know that’s what you’re doing though!
(It doesn’t have to be in that order- but I need both the Paypal payment sent, and of course to know the thing I’ll be drawing, before 2:30 pm on Monday.)
Before 2:30pm? I thought it was at 3pm?
Yes, well- I want to be able to get the important things settled before I’m drunk. :U This gives me time to have all my references and camera set up before shots are had.
KEEP IN MIND! If I don’t get enough commissions to make an event of it, I reserve the right to cancel the stream, in which case anyone who did contribute will be refunded. On the other hand, if I receive too many commissions for one night (a highly unlikely event, given the amount of time I’ve allotted for it), I will schedule a second stream.
Finally, a note to those who might be concerned about the drinking:
Don’t be! I have done this several times before; all of the images above (with the exception of the title card) were drawn during previous drunk streams. Trust me that I know my limits and how to care for myself, even while drunk. I will be drinking at my own pace.
Thank you to anyone to contributes, and to all who spread the word! Here’s hoping there’s a roaring good night ahead! o v o /
This drawing is not yet done, hohoho~!!
My part is to do the lineart; next it will be colored~!
This is mmmsammishes’s character, Beol, for our DnD verse (which he DMs). The idea was that Beol is mid-transforming back into his rockseer elf shape… I’m hoping it gives the colorist something fun to work with.
I guess this is a sequel to last year’s comic, haha~
Though it was an eventful year, there’s still no home like my dad’s hugs, so this is for him. Happy Father’s Day, Papi. <3
In addition, I tend to find it even presumptuous to assume an artist is charging too much per hour for work. In part, when you pay an artist, you are paying for expertise; as Booty said, it’s the same as a doctor, or an architect, or a therapist charging for their skills. You should go into the arrangement expecting more than minimum wage work.
Charging less plants someone squarely in the position of being a hobbyist, rather than a working professional.
Chinese watercolor artist Lian Quan Zhen has a brilliant response to this “hourly wage” question, when it comes up:
Yes, actually I do get commissioned with asking prices like that, and actually I make about £10 an hour, which is far, far less than I would make in a graduate position in my field, considering the minimum wage in the UK. I actually have a tendency too undercharge for my work, considering I’m a working professional with a degree - and by working professional I mean I’ve worked in the animation industry for about two years now.
The reason you think I’m charging ‘too much’ is because artists habitually undercharge for their work, usually because people like you turn around and say ‘is it really worth that?’ or because people who don’t know any better undercharge or do commissions for free. Would you ask a brain surgeon if he overcharged for brain surgery? Or an architect if he overcharged to build your house? Nine times out of ten you wouldn’t.
News flash, most artists have studied and worked in their field longer than those professionals and have earned the right to charge for their experience. I’ve been working as a free lance artist for a long long time (far longer than I have as an animator) and it’s my right to demand I be paid at least minimum wage.
My friend, ladylaguna recently got an anon much like this one, asking her the same question and I personally find it highly insulting - I tend to find that people who ask these kinds of questions don’t understand the field at all, or are the kind of people who give artists a bad name and think it’s okay to approach someone with grossly underpaid work (like £460 for a minutes worth of animation).
Thank you for asking, and doing so politely.
but tldr; my prices are fair and are far less than what I charge in my industry. This kind of attitude and question is bad for the art community because this will now sit on my blog and kind of counts as slander of my work and practise. People need to think about the time, effort and experience that goes into art work before they wonder if someone is over charging. Yes, I get paid these rates.
"But you painted that in just 20 minutes?"
"Yes, 20 minutes… plus 20 years.”
Bonus: attempts at drawing Three’s face.
I wonder if Jebs would endorse this depiction?;; I’m not sure. I like it, but it’s her RP character after all.
I’m starting to fall in love with drawing thundagabitch’s Black Waltz No. 3. He just suits pen and ink soooooo nicely.
It’s a sketchbook page that I maybe went a little too far with. :I ;; And as usual, related to RP things…
He’d waited, used handholds and half-lame wings to scale this castle to her windows.
Based on a short post by Jebs on her Black Waltz No. 3 account. I love it when a piece of writing gives me a vivid image like this…
(it’s maybe still a work in progress- I’m trying to decide if I’d like to add some grayscale or hatching to it still)
